Another Tool In The Belt

As creatives, we all have certain portions of a project that we look forward to. If you are a good at drawing, you may enjoy the initial thumbnails and sketching. Maybe you are a people person and your favorite aspect of the design process is the interaction with the client. We all use our strengths and push that as much as possible into every piece we create. The best designers are able to play their strengths and use them to push outside of their comfort zone.

There are always new skills to be acquired. New technologies to learn. New trends to experiment with. It has always been important to me that I continue to progress and learn something new from every project I complete. It could be a new Photoshop shortcut or a new CSS value, the most important thing we can do as designers is stay sharp and not settle on our current bag of tricks.

I take great pride in my Photoshop knowledge. I enjoy reading tutorials and learning new type treatments or how to streamline my process by using actions and shortcuts. I know XHTML and how to utilize CSS to create dynamic layouts. But I am not very fluent in PHP yet. So I work on using variables and strings to improve and add one more tool to my belt. By expanding your skills, you can add new clients and keep those projects coming in.
